Exercise Five: Creating a MV YouTube Channel

Although some of you may have personal YouTube accounts, you probably don't yet have a MV YouTube account.  This week you will create one!  You can use this account with students, staff, and parents to post educational video content of your creation.  The following instructions will also show you how to customize your privacy settings as well as block out pesky advertising.
A. To create your Mounds View YouTube Channel:
1.  Log into your Mounds View Apps (email, calendar, etc.) account.
2.  Click on "more" in the toolbar at the top of the page to find YouTube.
3. At the top right, you will see your email address.  You may also see a banner that says “This account is managed by moundsviewschools.org.”  Click on the box with your email address to open a menu.
   4.  Select settings from the menu.

    5. In the overview, select "Do not allow advertisements to be displayed alongside my videos" and click save.

             6.  Click on "Create a channel."

       7.  Use your full name for your username, first and last with no spaces.  If your name is not available, add a number at the end to create a unique username.  Select your gender in the drop down.  Make sure the box for “Let others find my channel on YouTube if they have my email address” is checked.  Click next.
     8.  Determine what you would like to share in your channel.  If you want to share only the videos you upload, deselect all four boxes, then click All Done!

Congratulations!  You are now ready to upload videos!
B.  Upload a video to YouTube
  • You can upload a video that you filmed on a camcorder or other device (like a short introduction about you for your students, or a overview of what you did this summer to share with your students...), upload your Screencast that you created last weekOR "record a video from your webcam" (feature available directly from YouTube).
  • There are no screen shots for this portion of the activity.  Sorry!  You can do it!
  • It is not required to edit your video using editing software but if you would like to edit your video anyway we recommend using Windows Movie Maker (pc) or iMovie (mac).  These programs come standard with any PC or Mac and are pretty easy and RELIABLE.  If you search YouTube for "how to tutorials" you can learn the basics.

  C.  Embed your YouTube video in your blog, post a reflection about the process, and add comments on 3 other recruits blogs.
