Exercise Four: Screencasting

Screencasting is the act of video recording the activity on your computer's screen. Most screencasts include an audio narration allowing the presenter to guide the audience through the presention. There is a wealth of free screencasting tools from which to choose, each with their own strengths. Most screencasting tools require you to install their product on your computer which is not an issue at home, but if you're using ISD 621 hardware, Deep Freeze will not allow you to install a product without first submitting a software request form to the tech. department.  In the activity directions below, you will be introduced to a number of different screencasting tools, the first of which is called SMART Recorder, which is already installed on your school computer. If you are working from a personal computer, you'll need to use one of the other products.

Exercise Objectives:
The recruit will:
  • Explore some screencasting tools at http://mvtrainings.weebly.com/screencasting.html
  • Choose a web 2.0 tool to create a screencast
  • Create a screencast (about anything)

  • Post a reflection about the experience on their blog
  • Comment on 3 posts from other recruits about their experience with screencasting.
